Mix Your Own Foundation Shade!

If you've ever had a foundation that just didn't match, you need to read this post! For those of you who regularly read my posts, you'll know a while back i bought the new Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in the lightest shade possible for me, and it was still way too pink/warm for my skin tone. I also have a L'Oreal TrueMatch foundation that was way too light and too drying on my skin. I have been thinking a lot about how to fix these two products in order to continue using them and not waste any money - i found it!!
A while back at WalMart i found these two cute little travel bottles hanging from the side of an aisle. It comes with one pump bottle, and one squirt bottle for $1.99. At first i had no use for them i just figured at some point they would come in handy and i was right! lol. *I plan to use the squirt bottle to make a homemade brush cleanser. I will do a full review & pics along w/ a recipe for that soon!*
Mixing Your Own Foundation
  1. Make sure you have an empty pump or pour bottle ready to use. They can be bought in the travel-size section in the beauty aisles at your local drugstore and are usually very cheap.
  2. Take two foundations that don't exactly match you, but you think would work well together. I chose these two shades and mixed a tiny amount together before dumping them in the bottle to make sure they made a nice shade. This may take a few tries.
  3. When you've figured out how much of each shade you need - wether it's ½ and ½ or ¾ to ¼ of each foundation - begin slowly pouring them into the empty bottle. Do not pour them in all at once.
  4. When the bottle is about ¼ of the way full begin to shake the bottle to mix to two shades and see if you're happy with the results. If you are - continue pouring the same way. If you aren't - try mixing in different amounts to balance it out until you have it right.
  5. Once you've balanced the two shades and you're happy with the results, fill the bottle up as much as you can. Shake it and mix the two shades together and you're done!!
  6. Shake well before each use.
Luckily i only needed to mix equal parts of my two shades so i basically dumped the entire bottle of Fit Me into the pump bottle and then dumped the entire bottle of TrueMatch ontop of and then shook it to mix them. The shade is still a tad light for me but its MUCH better than the others were by themselves. Because the Fit Me was too pink and a tad too oily and the TruMatch was too dry and too light, they mixed together very well!! Overall im happy with the results and i used the foundation directly after mixing them and it fit me great!
If you try this or have tried this in the past please let me know how it worked out for you, or if you did anything differently! :) Thanks for reading.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in 115 Ivory

I bought this Fit Me foundation in 115 Ivory at Walgreens a couple weeks ago for roughly $8. Everytime i had almost bought it before, i decided against it in the end because NONE of the shades matched me well enough. However, i decided to try it anyways =\
My skin tone is pale with olive undertones. So typically i need a yellow based foundation - not pink. Unfortunately this Fit Me is pink toned. *Everyone i talked to said it looked great and matched my skin fine but i dont think so LOL
My current foundation is CoverGirl TruBlend foundation in Classic Ivory. Its the perfect shade for my face and has blendable minerals + a pump bottle, which i love.
Maybelline Fit Me
[PROS]
very lightweight
blends easily
feels soft on face
medium coverage
sleek packaging
comes in TONS of shades
has SPF 18
[CONS]
too pink
super runny
no pump
If you check out Photo #3 you'll notice that the Fit Me shade is super pink toned and more runny compared to my CG foundation - both are shades of Ivory - both are the 2nd lightest shade in each of their collections. I dont hate the Fit Me foundation.... it blends well and covers great but i feel like when i put it on my face and neck dont match - the shades are off. I cant buy the lighter shade of Fit Me (theres only one more) because its TOO light for me. I am going to attempt to use this more, maybe mix it w/ a moisturizer or another foundation to even out the color but if it fails i will not be buying Fit Me again.

Maybelline ShineSensational in Mad About Melon

I purchased this a couple months ago at Rite-Aid in a small haul and i mainly picked it up 1) it was new, and 2) i love anything melon! LOL.

Sadly, im disappointed with this gloss. The gloss itsself is a pretty orange/peach shade with multi-colored shimmer that smells like cantaloupe - but its VERY STICKY which i absolutely hate. The first time i put it on my lips were sticking together and i was like OH NO!!

Overall the shades for these are super cute and great for Summer but the formula is bad :(

Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Born With it

Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Born With it

This lipstick is a pretty sheer pink shimmer and its very moisturizing! I like it alot because its only a couple shades 'pinker' than my lip tone so it does look very natural. I've somehow lost the photos of the lipstick itself and the case but you can find them at drugstores for $6-$7.

3 Maybelline Mascaras

I own these three Maybelline VolumExpress Mascara's for different reasons and they're all three good for different things so i figured i would compare them for you.

One By One
This mascara is best for lengthening and seperating lashes to make them appear longer. It doesnt give any fullness or thickness but it defintiley lengthens well. Rounded wand.

The Falsies
This is the thickest of all three mascara's and the only waterproof one. It makes lashes super volumized and thick and definitely gives that false lash appearance. However - its very hard to remove so i suggest getting the non-waterproof version. Curved wand.

The Turbo
This mascara is supposed to give you 7x more fullness and length but it doesnt - it isnt terrible but it works as a regular mascara for me. Lengthens and volumizes O.K.. Straight traditional wand.

Out of the three the One By One is my favorite but i like to sometimes add The Turbo ontop of it to add more volume. They're each $5-$7 in drugstores.

Maybelline ColorSensational Lip Stain in In The Buff

This is my very first experience with lip stains - ever. I purchased this at WalMart a couple months ago but i loved it so much i knew i had to do a buy more, lol. I really don't like lipsticks or even glosses that much, and i only own a small handful of each. However, these lip stains are great! *Photos are mine.
This particular lip stain marker is Maybelline's ColorSensational in In The Buff (05). It actually the lightest shade i found and still slightly dark - if you ask me. When i think of a 'buff' or nude shade i think of them to be neutral and light. This, however, is a sort of rosey pink shade if you ask me.
[PROS]
weightless
easy to apply
opaque color
no heavy or sticky feeling - basically feels like bare lips
smells really good and fruity
travel friendly
long lasting
didnt need to reapply all night
gave my lips a healthy flush and that 'just bitten' look
[CONS]
marker tip is a little rough, but not too bad
shade was alot darker than i expected according to shade/name
Overall i really like this lip stain marker! I was always scared to try them before because im like... "ok if i put this on and hate it, theres no turning back, my lips will be stained for hours!" but now i dont feel that way. I picked the lightest shade WalMart had to offer in their Maybelline ColorSensational section and i have been wearing it underneath my new CoverGirl NatureLuxe gloss balm in Marble (zero color payoff, basically just a sheer gloss) and the two work really nicely together!
Would i buy more? Yes! I am going to check out some more shades and see if there are any i may like (from Maybelline and other brands that sell lip stains).
Have you ever tried these? I would like to know what you thought or if you have any tips/suggestions for me. Thanks!

Maybelline Lash Stiletto in Soft Black

I was never really interested in this mascara but thanks to the 50%-75% Off CVS sale i got to try it for $5.25, instead of $10.49 regular.
PROS
soft black is a great alternative to browns when you want something dark, but not too dark
got it for 50% off
definitely lengthens and separates lashes well
not clumpy
sleek packaging
nice brush
CONS
has that weird floral smell some mascaras have - hate it
If it hadn't been for this sale i would have never purchased this mascara. As i said before, it just never intrigued me and it was always so expensive for a drugstore mascara. However, now that i have it i actually like it alot (apart from the smell) and it's one of the best mascara's i own for lengthening. I like to use it as a base for a volume mascara that way i get length + volume on my lashes.
Would i recommend it? Sure. If you prefer lengthening mascaras and want long lashes, try this! It also comes in waterproof.

Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Twilight

This Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Twilight was a total disappointment for me. As you can see from the swatch is not pigmented at all and VERY sheer. The shade itsself is pretty, its a sheer pink with purple/blue duochrome shimmer. Its a little hard to describe, but really cute. Unfortunately, it just doesnt work for me. I paid roughly $5-$7 at WalMart for this.

Maybelline The Turbo Volum'Express Mascara

I purchased this mascara for roughly $9 at CVS a week or so ago because of it's claim to give 7x volume to lashes. Im currently using CoverGirl LashBlast Volume (orange tube) and i actually like it better.

Maybelline's The Turbo Volum' Express has a nice brush and seems to pick up alot of product, but it doesnt distribute enough of it onto lashes. It took me 3-4 coats for the coverage i would normally get from 2 coats of LashBlast. Its easy to remove at the end of the day with soap & water, or a makeup remover, and it lasts all day without being cakey or clumpy but the formula wasnt thick enough (in my opinion) for a volume mascara. I expected alot more. Im still going to use it obviously, because it isnt terrible, its just not what i expected.

Eyeliner Collection (w/ swatches)

I was inspired by a few other luuux.com posts I have seen recently about eyeliner collections, so i decided to break most of mine out and swatch them for you. I have to apologize for not providing price info but its a little hard to remember the prices for all of these off the top of my head, lol. If you're interested check online or in drug stores (for most of them).

Maybelline Amethyst Smokes Quad

Maybelline Amethyst Smokes Eyeshadow Quad

I have had this Maybelline Amethyst Smokes eyeshadow quad for a long time, so im not sure on the price, but i have never swatched it & i felt like it today. Its basically one of my favorite palettes to use when doing a smokey eye because purple is my favorite color and it really brings out the green in my eyes. I applied...
Medium purple shimmer shadow all over lids,
Dark purple matte shadow shaded into creases,
Black glitter shadow shaded into outer corners,
and White shimmer shadow as a highlight.
I finished it with liquid eyeliner pencil in black, and black mascara. Check out the last image for a visual and text of exactly what shades im talking about, and where i applied them. The back of this palette shows you how to create this look yourself but the applicators provided dont work that well. I used my own brushes.

What are your favorite shades to create a smokey look?

Maybelline ColorSensational Lip Pencil in Clear

This is Maybelline's ColorSensational Lip Liner Pencil in Clear. Its sold at drugstores, or wherever Maybelline is sold with the ColorSensational lipsticks ($5-$6). It applies very smoothly but it isnt exactly 'clear' it obviously is white in the pictures and does show up a little on lips/skin. But its not so bad that it would effect lipcolor or make you look funny, lol.

It does its job.. it keeps lipsticks from feathering or running and is virtually invisible. Well worth the  money... and it was also the only clear lip liner i found in WalMart.

I dont wear lipsticks or other lip colors very often so this lip liner will last me quiet a long time, plus its clear so its so versatile and can be used with anything. Definitely worth the money.

Maybelline Lipstick - 'In The Nude'

Maybelline Lipstick in In The Nude

Sorry, but i cannot remember the specific name of this lipstick other than the shade is In The Nude, and it's made by Maybelline. But i know it is still sold in stores for around $6-$8.
PROS:
creamy
moisturizing
doesnt dry out lips
pigmented
good neutral color for all skin tones
long lasting
CONS:
too 'tingly' on lips
i prefer a tapered (or pointed) stick - not round

Apart from the fact that thos lipstick tingles too much and the round shape makes it a little more difficult to apply, this is an amazing color and soo worth the buy. It's one of the only lipsticks i own that is super pigmented, covers completely and leaves my lips soft and moisturized, and doesnt look or feel dry. Plus its matches great w/ my skin tone (which is hard to find for me). Its practically the only lipstick i feel comfortable wearing and KNOW i look good in it.
What do you think? What's your favorite Drugstore lipstick?
